When families, schools, or local authorities look for 1:1 support, they are placing enormous trust in the people delivering it. Quite rightly. So what should you expect from every Thrive tutor?
At Thrive, we believe tutoring and mentoring should be about far more than simply delivering academic content.
The right tutor can help rebuild confidence, trust, routine, engagement, and self-belief.
That responsibility matters.
The standards we set
You should expect professionalism. You should expect consistency. And above all, you should expect a child-centred approach.
Our tutors are expected to:
- Build positive, respectful relationships
- Understand SEN and additional needs
- Work in a calm, flexible, and adaptive way
- Communicate professionally with families and professionals
- Maintain strong safeguarding standards
- Recognise that emotional wellbeing and learning are closely connected
Qualifications and what sits behind them
For our tutoring provision, we may also require Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), alongside experience supporting children with additional needs, barriers to education, or disrupted learning journeys.
But qualifications alone are not enough.
We look carefully at how people work with children.
Patience matters. Reliability matters. Emotional intelligence matters.
Why this matters
Many of the children we support have already experienced disrupted education, broken trust, or environments where they no longer feel safe or understood. The adults around them need to bring stability, encouragement, and consistency.
At Thrive, we are building a network of tutors and mentors who genuinely care about helping young people move forward — academically, emotionally, and socially.
Because good support is not just about raising grades.
It's about helping children believe they can succeed again.
